SI - Reaction bonded Silicon Carbide
Reaction bonded silicon carbide is a material with parts of metallic silicon and thus of no porosity. Due to its negligible shrinkage SiSiC is suited for large components. Typical characteristics are very good thermal conductivity, excellent tribological properties and strength. This is why sliding rings for mechanical seals are made from SiSiC as well as mixers or mill linings. Another benefit is that complex shapes can be produced by wire erosion.
